Programme note

The word ekstasis is of Greek origin meaning "a being put out of its place" and also describes a trance-like state of the mind. Based on a call to prayer, the work is in the form of a mensural canon (also known as a prolation or a or proportional) canon). The first version of the work was written in March 1996 and revised two years later.
